چکیده

The relation of tissue mast cells to immune reactions, particularly anaphylaxis, has been the subject of extensive investigation and speculation in recent years. It is generally agreed that a variety of pharmacologically active substances are involved in the pathogenesis of anaphylaxis, that many of these substances are stored in tissue mast cells, and that anaphylaxis in many species is mediated by release from mast cells of these substances as a consequence of an appropriate antigen-antibody interaction. This monograph begins with a brief and uncritical review of the literature on these important and interesting relationships. This is followed by a much more thorough treatment of that aspect of the problem that apparently is of greatest interest to the author: ziz., studies on the mechanism of release of histamine from mast cells in anaphylactic reactions. A detailed account is presented of experiments, largely the author's, that support the hypothesis that a nonspecific constituent of serum, a chymotrypsin-like esterase that is very similar to, but probably not identical with, a component of complement is essential for release of histamine. The author acknowledges that, as a matter of convenience, in his studies he used mast cells from the rat, an animal in which the role of mast cell degranulation in anaphylaxis is questionable. Furthermore, because of the difficulty in demonstrating degranulation of mast cells of the rat with the naturally occurring direct form of anaphylaxis, he found it necessary to use the artificial model of reversed anaphylaxis. Consequently, the relevance of these observations to naturally occurring phenomena remains to be demonstrated. This monograph will be of value primarily to those who have an interest in studies on the mechanism of release of histamine from mast cells. It is not recommended for those who seek a basic understanding of the relation of tissue mast cells to immune reactions.

The Role of Different Sugars, Amino Acids and Few Other Substances in Chemotaxis Directed Motility of Helicobacter Pylori

Objective(s) Motility plays a major role in pathogenicity of Helicobacter pylori, yet there is  scarce data regarding its chemotactic behaviour. The present study was designed to investigate the chemotactic responses of local isolates of H. pylori towards various sugars, amino acids, as well as some other chemical substances. Materials and Methods Chemotaxis was assayed by a modified Adler’s...

Impact of sea salt stress on growth and some physiological attributes of some soybean (Glycine Max L.) varieties.

The impact of three levels of sea salt (0.0, 8.0, and 16.0 mS/cm2) on six varieties of soybean (Crawford, G21, G22, G35, G82, and G83) was studied. Growth criteria, photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugars, soluble protein, free amino acids, free proline, and protein profile of soybean varieties were investigated under sea salt stress. Results of this study showed a considerable decrease in grow...

Amino sugars in the wall of Pseudomonas fluorescens.

~-Amino-~,6-dideoxy-~-galactosc has been identified as a component of the wall of Pseudumonas JIuorescens (NcTC10038). This amino sugar was present in the lipopolysaccharide fraction of the wall : other amino compounds present were glucosamine, galactosamine, quinovosamine, alanine and ethanolamine. The distribution of amino sugars within different regions of the lipopolysaccharide was studied ...

Organic matter transformations in the upper mesopelagic zone of the North Pacific: Chemical composition and linkages to microbial community structure

[1] Transformation processes in the euphotic and mesopelagic zones are of crucial importance to the biological pump and global elemental cycles. In this study, elemental stoichiometries and chemical compositions of particulate and dissolved organic matter (DOM) were investigated in the euphotic and upper mesopelagic zones of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. The distributions of bacterial bio...

Amino sugars in the glycoprotein toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis.

The carbohydrate content of purified Bacillus thuriniensis subsp. israelensis crystal toxin was determined by six biochemical tests, column chromatography on an amino acid analyzer, and the binding of 11 fluorescent lectins. The crystals contained approximately 1.0% neutral sugars and 1.7% amino sugars. The amino sugars consisted of 70% glucosamine and 30% galactosamine. No N-acetylneuraminic a...
